I know that I have made a mess of this one, but I would like advice.

I had been testing my lens at various apertures using a map and I left it set on f32.
I had also previously set my camera to be able to over ride the ISO setting in certain circumstances.
I used aperture priority for this shot.

I was walking on my normal morning walk crossing a pedestrian bridge over the mouth of the River Doon.
As I reached the bridge 2 swans started to fly towards me under the bridge. I had time only to grab this shot and got the second swan, but highlights are seriously blown.
The shot was taken at ISO 12800, and f32.
What lessons do I learn from this?
