taken with my old 7D. was not a fan of that camera for birds and bifs, noisy images, and the AF was poor.

Good photo, interestingly Tony Northrup used to recommend a second hand 7D and 400mm f5.6 as a good combination for birds!
Although I think your recommendation is probably based on a lot more experience with the 7D.
