No plans to chase the whooping cranes this year.

My wife and I sat on our back patio last evening and had a pretty good raptor evening. 2 red-tailed hawks were around though not close enough and a Cooper's hawk clipped some feathers off a dove right over the top of the house but missed. It was going away and never stopped or circled back. It was getting very near dark and I saw a large bird angling toward us and I thought the Cooper's had come back. Nope! A female northern harrier. I got what shots I could with the unavailable light. I also had a 1.4X teleconverter on which kicked things up to f9. Not the best of shots and I pulled it out of the shadows a little. It was close enough that the converter wasn't even needed but I thought I was finished for the evening.

Great flight shot, Bill! You surely kept the two cranes in great focus, considering the background you had to deal with.

That's pretty neat, two whoopers, and in flight.

Not your classic bird in flight shot, but this is what you get when you take a photo of a black bird with a very bright background.

Thanks, Mike. I was using the little Sony a6400 too due to distance. I miss that little body.

Arch, thanks. In their wintering grounds on the Texas coast, many are paired up. They sure let you know when they are getting ready to go. These were after a lone crane invading their territory.

Well Bill, that little a6400 along with your guidance, certainly does a great job
