Most large birds use thermals. During migration you can see large flocks circling up and then soaring away. Pretty cool way to travel. :-P

Yep, at the height they travel it would be! (Sorry, couldn't resist! :) )

Canon 7D2 · 16-35 f/4L IS · 17-55 f/2.8 IS · 18-135 f/3.5-5.6 IS STM · 50 f/1.8 · 100 f/2.8 Macro · 100-400L IS II
Picture editing is OK. CC always welcome.

The larger Pacific Gul was chasing the smaller Silver Gull with the worm.

But in a classic 'Top Gun' manoeuvre the Silver Gull went vertical, hit the brakes and the Pacific Gull flew straight past.

The Silver Gull then pulled in behind and now the roles were reversed until the it broke off the engagement and flew off to eat in peace.

Medium crop from a single centre point AF on the 7D2 with the 100-400 and 1.4x, quite happy with the result.

Snow Geese -- Not a rare or exotic bird but still fun to practice BIF settings and techniques. Technique?? Lol, my technique is usually out the door pretty quick when the action heats ups.

Medicineman, don't know where you are shooting, but the waters look very familiar. Perhaps I've seen you at the same location, but we just don't know each other.

Wow, incredible light and detail. That is probably the last thing some poor creature ever saw.
