Apr 13, 2018 16:33 | #9399 Lame-Duck wrote in post #18605772 That growth is called a horn, or nuptial tubercle, and is grown during the breeding season. At the conclusion of the breeding cycle, this plate like horn falls off. Ornithologists believe that it plays a role in the male's ability to attract females (go figure on that one). Wow! I had no idea they did this. Thanks! Canon 7D2 · 16-35 f/4L IS · 17-55 f/2.8 IS · 18-135 f/3.5-5.6 IS STM · 50 f/1.8 · 100 f/2.8 Macro · 100-400L IS II

The Shrike's were relentless with the snake. After a while I think the snake was just trying to get away but every time it would leave the safety of a bush with high grass around it the Shrike's would attack and force it back. If they would have left it alone I think the snake would have left the area much earlier but they were determined to make sure that it got the message.
