Great one Ed and thanks for the kind words.
I think we have all at one time or another wished they'd gotten closer. But you shot looks like he was right on top of you!

Floating through the air like the ghost that it is. Beautiful!

You really nailed that one Ed. Very nice!

Thank you very much guys!

Robert, the key thing with harriers I have found is to observe where they are hunting. They tend to make multiple passes over the same general route, so I just parked my truck along the rice field where I had seen a several hunting and wait. That is the other part, being patient. I waited about 40 minutes at this spot before this guy made a wonderful pass right across the road from my truck and I fired away.

Stunning shot, Peter. Tough shot when they're coming at you.

To start with, in M set your camera to the widest f stop of your lens, at least 1/1000 shutter speed and auto iso. Set to AI Servo with case 1 set to defaults and the focus points to small zone. Now practice practice practice and then when you've put some hours in you'll know more about how else you want to adjust your settings to be more in tune with how you shoot. The out of box defaults are a good place to start rather than straight off trying to adjust loads of stuff you don't quite understand.

Thank you so much. I will definitely try your suggestions. :-)

Most I'd think go to Bosque for geese and cranes eh.
I went with the hope of a Harrier. We get 3000 cranes here
and we've seen Tundra Swan (kinda close to a Snow Geese you think?) by the
thousands on Lake Mattamuskeet.
I'd already gotten the Harrier posted earlier dining on a Snow Goose, but this is
my first in flight Harrier.
They were easy to find but they would never get close enough to suit me.
So this is the best I could do on a dive-

What a site. And I imagine there's a fair amount of screeching.
Very nice.
Certainly some subjects there to chose from.
Deciding which would be my problem.
