Now for those with 4, 5 or 6 lights, are you working alone? How do you deal with bringing these lights on location. It was hard for me to work alone with all of these lights. I had 2 Einsteins, 2 C-stands, a ton of lighting modifiers, and 8 15-lbs sandbags. It was multiple trip to and front the car - It was a constant grind to set up and pack up.

How do you deal with two different lighting companies? My friend and I share the einsteins and 1 eli. I personally am a stickler for consistency and I can't deal with the 1 300 style RX. I'm urging him to get rid of it so that money can be spent towards another Einstein.

Deal with different brands in what sense? And consistency in what? Color temp? Operating procedure? Modifiers? Triggering?

Why don't you get some carts or hand trucks? If you carrying all the stuff to your shoots a nice cart can be real helpful. I only bring max two lights for outdoor shoots.

I disagree on the "need" for 4-5lights minimum.

I shoot 90% on location, and the 10% of my studio work is never more than 2 lights. That being said I have a Ranger Pack with 1 head and a Quadra pack with 2 heads.

I agree with this I almost never use all my flashes. Most of the time I have 1 key light with one strobe on the back ground. Then out side i just use one key light and thats it..

I should have been more specific.

How do you deal with color temperature (as in color shifting) & operating procedures.

My primary lights are the Elinchroms. If I need to use the Alien Bees, they're used for auxiliary lighting, like BG lighting of non-white background or rim lighting, where color temp differences aren't much of a problem.

That's the perfect answer that I am looking for. Do you find color shifting on those Eli Rangers? I tried to look at their specs and they didn't say if they had color or power consistencies (i.e. 5600K +/- 50K in color consistency & +/- 1/50 in power consistency)

I have 6 and really only need 4 if even that. For location shoots I only take the Ranger pack with A-heads though I wouldn't mind have an additional pack and heads.

I've never had to worry about (nor have I seen) color shifts with my Elinchrom lights. The only time I had issues with color shifts was when I was using the ABs as my primary lights (this was before I went with the Elis).

I noticed that there was a color shifting issue (when dialling the power up and down) on the Eli Style 300RX. However, I do like the mount on the Elis. Too bad, those rangers are not within my price budget. If i was spending that amount of money, I'd probably step it up and buy a profoto AcuteB2 600 Life.

Marlon, you said that you would be willing to but an AcuteB head on a mono but not an Einstein.
I just checked on Adorama, the Acute B 600Ws head weights 3.4 lbs without a cable. The Einstein weights 4 lbs 5 Oz according to their specs. So that's just a pound more than the Acute head.

I don't think that would make much difference.

Need: 1-2 hotshoe flashes and equivalent number of RF-602 receivers, Softbox or two, DIY Beauty Dish
Want: 4-5 Studio strobes, transcievers, and mobile power packs, enough modifiers.

Have: 1xYN-468 Speedlight, 1xold Sunpack 344 that can only be triggered with optical slave that doesn't work too well (rf-602 doesn't work on it)

Need: More monies.

You can get a Ranger RX pack (1100 Ws) and a head for less than $2000. You'd be able to get the AcuteB2 600 (600Ws) and a head for just under $3000. I don't know why some people seem to think that the Ranger RX and the AcuteB2 are priced very close to each other. I had looked at the AcuteB2 packs but just couldn't resolve the almost one grand difference in price (and that's not even considering the difference in power output or the flash duration).
