Hey guys I was just wondering if the Samyang/Rokinon/etc. 14mm 2.8 would be a good choice for video on a 5D II? It is a fraction of the cost of the Canon version but I was wondering if the distortion would be distracting? It isn't all that bad but I've never shot with such a wide lens before ever. Will the video look weird because of the mustache distortion? Anyone have a sample video? Thanks!

The distortion will make your footage look cheap. Look at gopro HD footage. It'll come out kinda like that.

Great for corrected shots, but I doubt the massive distortions would look great on video.

This is what it looks like on canon 5D. It has better purpose for landscape or very wide shot.

I am looking to purchase this and the 35mm f/1.4 when that comes out all in nikon mount even though I shoot w/ all canons.

no my photos. they're from google.

Found the lens sample thread: https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=909272

Just take it the video into photoshop to remove the distortion.

Depend on where your subject is at. Also 16:9 ratio framing will be captured instead of 6:4 ratio. Therefore, the distortion will be observed more on the side instead at the top.

Similarly with vignetting, some lenses vignette at 6:4 but on video, you dont see it.

I have the Rokinon 14mm for video. I use it with the Glidecam. The lens is pretty awesome for the price and works great on a crop camera for any follow shots as long as you keep your subject near the center. I still prefer my 24L II for any high end landscape shots but the 14mm can't be beat for the price when using a Glidecam. I'll try to get a test-shot up for everybody later.
