Anthony Gormley's art installation at Crosby sands Liverpool. There are 50 are so of these full size figures on the beech at different places. Some become completely submerged as the tide comes in - others just get their feet wet. I love it. You must go and see them if you get the chance.

Nice... I like the second best except that the horizon is too centered. Perhaps if you had stood on your toes, you'd had more sea on the pic (about 2/3 ;-)a )
The light is great also, looks good IMO reflected like that...

What are the figures made off? Will the erode with the tide?

Thanks.

They are made of solid cast iron and are anchored to huge concrete blokes under the sand. I guess they will decay very slowly. The ones that are covered by the tide have become homes to some creatures:

Is this better with the horizon?

Hi,

Very nice, I like all you photos, of the Gormley's Glad you fond the time to go and visit, its well worth going to.

I need to go back and do some more photos, probably next week/weekend. So I will let you know. (Sorry folks its difficult to post them on this forum as my main camera in not a Canon).

I see you went to the Hall Road end. Its good there, I tried the middle by the swimming baths/leisure centre. It’s not one of the main signposted car parks, until you get close to the baths, follow sign from the end of College Road at the roundabout joining Mersey View, over the railway, at the bottom mini roundabout you need to go straight across (its sort of right then immediate left). Then when at this part of the beach turn to your left and walk facing towards the docks or left along the promenaded. The sand dues have engulfed the promenaded wall so when looking back towards the land you don’t get a view of the concrete wall you see sand dune.

If you live in Liverpool or near enough to visit and have not yet visited do so, follow sign from end of College Road at the roundabout joining Mersey View.

Peter

Thanks Peter - some of the signs did seem to lead off in the wrong direction!

Just a note to say this weekend 21/22 October 2006 will be your last chance to see these as they are being dug up at the end of the month and moved to the USA.

Hopefully I'll be there Sunday :)

The council have decided that they are a hazard to fishermen and boat users! Forget that they have attracted 1 million visitors to the area and brought lots of money in! Short-sighted council....surely not!
