Large OctaBox bottom flagged, with photog standing in front of it, lighting on face has been adjusted in PS, look at the sawtooth shape of the light on his right cheek and it stops at the hair line. Maybe caused by shape of OctaBox.

Just a guess from a quick look

Yep, I shoot most of my actor headshots in that manner..... I have double doors that open downstairs to my studio that I'll shoot head shots from, and I also have my main studio upstairs that has two huge walls of windows (55'x10' and 24'x10') that I'll also use as window light
Kanye is either inside of a door way or room of some sort and the "catchlight" in his eyes are from the outdoors.
Here's a guy out of Cali who does this method often, click here (external link)

Here's another one..... (external link)

Completely agree, looking at some of the others covers he has done for GQ with similar lighting. I looks like a huge bank of windows, the only other thing I could think is one of the huge broncolor parabolic's

I would have to sell a relative to afford that.

One huge dish $10,000
Light for dish. $ 3,000
Power pack. $11,000
-- a 20 pound umbrella!

A bit in the cheap side but, if it works a couple time before it falls apart, it might be worth a try.
