The difference is that you won't need to or want to keep adding things to the XZ-1. The T2i is another story...

Panasonic LX5

Or you could just get one nice standard zoom or prime and stop buying more crap for it. DSLR are only as expensive as you make it.

had a nifty fifty come on a crop sensor it's too much of a fixed focal, the kit lens 18-55 is horrible so a nice 17-85mm is like $500

If you thought the kit lens was horrible you will likely feel the same way about any P&S option out there. I'm assuming you used the Canon 18-55IS.

What was horrible about the 18-55?

Have you considered something like a 17-50 f2.8 or 17-700 f2.8-4?

I don't see a P&S being much better than the 18-55IS unless you want like 12x zoom...

I was reading the S95 thread and picture thread just alot of people were complaining of too many
Soft photos and the low light video seemed to lack color to me. I'll look into the g12 or canon sx20 and sx10 but I'm also leaning towards the panasonic fx40 what have you fellow forum members think of this panny.

Ive heard the S95 called alot of things. The one thing I've never heard it called is soft. Ive never seen anyone complain about soft photos from the S95. I HAVE an S95, and being completely unbiased because it's the internet and I simply don't care, it is tack sharp. If you have (and I hate to say it this way) a good copy of the S95, you can never complain about lack of sharpness or loss of color in low light video.
