There is always the option of going Canon refurbished. $399.99. I bought one a couple weeks ago and it's just like brand new. Good alternative.

Usually it's still cheaper with tax than $449.00.

But then you are only saving maybe 20 bucks to get a refurb with 1/4 the warranty.

same price at Amazon.

I am shocked someone would pay $450 for a flash, though. That's outrageous.

Did you get the shoe stand with it?

The site says under what's in the box

  • Speedlite 580EX II
  • Instruction Book
  • One Year Limited Warranty Card

Sure did. It was everything a retail 580EX II has in it just a different warranty. I can't tell any difference between mine and a brand new one off the self.

I can't believe the price of these things. I know, I know....the old argument about currency adjustments, which is BS. No one gets away with price increases like Canon.

I'm sorry, but I'd take anything Neil says with a grain of salt. He's linking to Amazon Affiliate flashguns that he's pushing in that post (so he makes $$$ if you buy the one's he's pushing). I've used a Sigma 500 Super for years with great results. You don't have to spend half a grand of money to get a good flash.
