i use auto ISO most of the time. But in lowlight, no flash condition, i usually set the ISO manually and crank all the way to 12800.. Noisy shot is better than blurry shot!

Obviously you want to use as low of ISO as possible for sharper images, but cant always do that because of lighting. Im wondering if anyone ever uses auto ISO? how good is it? im thinking might be nice feature to save time and easier. But curious how good it is and will it always choose lowest possible? I do once in a while at M if I'm too lazy. Or if I shot at AV mode between shadow and bright side. M-E and ME blog

In lower light, and AV mode, it tried to the 1/FL shutter speed, but often that is too slow. So, when using a 28mm in low light, it would keep the shutter speed at 1/30th, usually too slow to take pictures of people. Even with a 50mm or 85mm lens, the shutter speed often was too slow if someone moves at all. 1Ds3--T2i--24-105L--24LTSEv1--24L--Sigma 50/1.4--50/1.8--85Lv2--70-200f4LIS--Sigma 150-500

I guess it's 2nd nature to operate in the (exposure) triangle. Can't say I fully trust the camera to see what I want it to see. "Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift. Feb 28, 2011 13:01 | #37 DL Photo wrote in post #11914974 I find that auto-ISO works well when I'm taking action shots....such as soccer....and it is partly cloudy....tough to have a constant ISO when the light conditions keep changing. Other than that, it's manual ISO all of the time for me. Exactly what I do in exactly the same conditions. Rather than miss a shot while twisting knobs, I'll let the camera do it. But always prefer to us M and dial my own ISO in when possible. 5D3/7D/350D/S110/24-105/15-85/70-200 2.8L Mk II/100-400L/Sigma 18-200/

I wish i could set exposure compensation and that auto iso would go to 6400. Why can't we have these things? I'm with you and all the other posters on wishing I could set EC (although I've been trying to figure out how Canon would implement it - another mode, called TvAv, and/or another button so you can switch the top dial between shutter speed and aperture, and leave the rear dial for EC?), but other than that, I love auto-ISO - get to pick both your DOF and how much you want to stop action, and the camera does the rest. I like being able to set both of those things at the start and not have to touch it again for the rest of the day/night. I just change EC in post nowadays if it's not too far off.

umphotography grabbing their Johnson More info | I started experimenting with it last year. I actually like it a lot for sports, wildlife and situations where light is changing. I always set it +1/3 and i must admit, its pretty accurate. Its the bomb for sport shots in TV mode and fun to play with to get different affects. Didnt realize how much affect 500-800 has in the water, so iso is one less thing to worry about. Mike

There are times I get frustrated that I cant use a higher shutter speed and have to go manual, but more and more I have grown to like auto ISO.
