I use Neat Image for noise reduction. When I went from 50D to 7D there was a distinct improvement. I could get about a 1 f/stop benefit on the 50D. With the 7D is is more like 2 stops - the noise pattern is different and more easily handled by Neat Image, or so it seems. How's the 60D noise pattern? I am thinking of getting a 60D. Only for macro and flowers. I will not need AF so the AF ability, # of points and MAF adjust do not matter. Not for big heay lenses either so the mount material is also not an issue. Same bty but different cards. which I can accept. It's that swivel screen and the same 18MP I am after. Frame rate and buffer size also no issues. Will not be doing video. RAW, camera set at neutral only (ok, I know that isn't an issue in RAW.)

I'd say very similar to that of the 7D, which makes sense.

Hey--my gf has a 60d and I have a 7d. what kind of noise are we talking about? Imho:

1. The 60d has a bit less pattern noise/banding/whatever you wanna call it at low ISO in the deep shadows. Perhaps because of less readout channels or something, who knows?

2. High ISO noise seems the same. The same neat-image profiles I made for my 7d work good on the 60. If you've got some custom stuff made up, I'd say grab some of the 60d cr2 files from imaging resource to test. But they are definately comparable. The 60d is definitely not worse.

Edit: For MF I'd say go for it for sure. That tilt screen is friggin nice. :)

Thanks Gabe & Woos since i definitely trust your judgments owning & having access to both bodys.

Gabe i might just go ahead and get the 60D anyways since this late summer is a long time to wait on the possible 5D MKIII.

Regards, ;)

I undestand that. I'm not a very patient man myself ;)

+1. If this were computer stuff I'd say waiting can be good, but in the dslr world stuff holds a decent value. So if you aren't sure you can always get what you want now, then simply sell later. :)
