My experience with them is once part great, one part disappointing:

GREAT PART
24-70 EX DG Macro: had a focus ring issue. I advised Sigma that I bought this at a shop in the Bahamas, so it was not covered under any warranty - I expressly ASKED for an estimate. They received the lenses on the 8th, and it was fixed by them time I called them on the 10th to make sure they were working on them. Not only that, but at no cost to me. Pretty sweet!

DISAPPOINTING:
50 1.4: Bought this used and was fine on my Xsi. Had some issues on my new body (7D), so I sent it in for calibration. Although I gave them a receipt from Amazon (not in my name) they would not honor warranty. So I paid $105 for a new focus data/profile (or something like that) to be uploaded to the lens. Paid this via Sigma website on the 11th...just got lens back today. Initially I would say the lens does not seem to be any different. Still need to play with MAF as 1.4 seemed softer than when I sent it in...

My only experience with Sigma service. Bittersweet to say the least...

I had major trouble with them over the receipt not being in my name as well. After many (tens) of phone calls, I got them to service it under warranty without charging me. They ought to have a better system of dealing with people who received their lens as a gift.

After playing with it for a bit I am getting satisfactory sharpness at 1.4 at -18 MAF. OK in One Shot. AI Servo is still hit&miss.

I guess I will have to relegate this lens to One shot usage, and maybe even with Speedlite on to help with focus assist...

I have my 50 1.4 in for service right now. Been in for three weeks. My problem is that it requires MA in one direction for focusing up close, and in the other direction for further away.

The tech said the profile they uploaded was for a given distance from the lens, but he'd check for firmware updates. I have no idea how this stuff works, but I'm thinking the camera is telling the lens to spin the HSM a certain amount, but there seems to be something wrong here, making it miss focus. Oh well, I'll find out when the lens returns!

At least it's covered by my warranty!

Best of luck to you...

This lens is just so inconsistent. When it wants to it can shine...but otherwise just so frustrating...

First impression with this lens was that it rocked! Build quality felt very good, very sharp wide open, and they've gotten rid of that cheapish glitterish coating.

What year was your 50 made?
