Not taking any camera to a wedding

Very stressed about my son's upcoming wedding. It is a huge formal evening wedding clear across the country and I won't have a camera. This is going to be extremely difficult.

Why no camera? Maybe because it is so formal?

Maybe you can sneak one in and stash it somewhere.

It's your son's wedding. Why would you not want to take your own photos? Just stay out of the way of the professional photographer, and you'll be fine.

i can see that, it sucks but its your turn to be mom not the picture taker, but maybe hide one for the reception and the rehearsal.

I think you will regret not taking your own. As was said, don't interfere with the one that was hired and what-not, but even the last wedding I went to, there was no way I was NOT bringing my own camera.

It's girl-childs wedding in a couple of weeks and I'm taking a camera !!

Might even shout myself a new S95 / G11 !!!

I wanted to take my camera, but my friends and family forbid me at my son's wedding. That wasn't too bad, it was torturous hot that day. I felt bad for Jim who was taking pictures that day. Take the camera, but let it stay in the car if you want to enjoy your family. That way if you really want it, take it out for a few, but no more than that. Enjoy life's events, you don't have to take pictures all the time.

I've always thought of a camera, during family events, as a wall between myself and others.

We went to Disney for five days at Christmas, and I brought my DSLR, but it didn't take long for my family to get annoyed. I don't blame them.

Next time I'll bring a point and shoot (but not to a wedding).

Well that's a bummer but not if there's already a photographer there.

I took my G11 to my son's wedding. Stayed out of the way of the Pros but got in some awesome captures

I will be shooting at the salon where the gals will be getting their hair done their photog won't be there, I will shoot while the bride is getting final preps done, as long as their photog is not in there, and I will get a couple shots of my son getting prepared. So I will be fine.....thank you all for your suggestions....

Don't take a camera, enjoy the event, be a part of the event.
Hopefully you hired an "actual" professional photographer so you will have "professional" quality pictures to enjoy for years to come and you will be in them without a camera in front of your face.

I think I would be almost too emotional to do a good job -- I'd want the vid/photos to prompt recollection of the full impact of the day, and to get that I'd have to be attending, not shooting.
