I hear that tungsten lighting is the new 'thing' with photography. Specifically with backlighting.
Is there a standard of lighting, based on the light sprectrum, that photographers use to get innovative ideas about lighting?
And with the advances of LED lights, has anyone experimented with this type of lighting?

I guess my question is, how could I compare tungsten lighting to LED lighting, and if its worth comparing.

"Tungsten" is the "old" thing and has been around for ever...

But I think I understand what you are asking. LED lights are rather new, and have some real big benefits over strobes. The problem is, they cost 5x what expensive strobes cost.

This is being driven by the digital video market, where they need constant lighting. If you look at some of the new LED Arri lighting setups, they run in the $20K price range.

Pros:
1. The don't get hot
2. They have variable temperature dial, you can set the white balance on the LEDs!
3. thin
4. don't require a lot of power to turn on

Cons:
1. super expensive
2. usually a normal setup requires MANY lights
3. require heavy duty stands
