Hi,
As I will pass some days in New York City around the end of april, I'm thinking about to get a suitable, wearable back bag for my gear: 5D, 1D MkIII, EF 17-40, EF 100, EF 200 and the EF 85 f/1,8 along with a Monostat Monopod.
So far I used a Lowepro Slingshot 300 AW which meanwhile is in bad conditions and should be replaced.
Tips would be appreciated, thanks.

you'd be better off with a messenger-style bag, some places don't allow backpacks and will make you store it in a locker room or something (like the statue of liberty).
But if you just want it to take your gear to NY and then use another bag, then I can't help I'm afraid since I don't know anything about camera backpacks :)

That's a lot of gear to be carrying around. Are you sure you need all that? I take a torso bag, a Kata. It holds my 5D2 with 24-70 attached and the 70-200 or a 17-40 with flash. Monopod has to be very small. Some buildings have rules as stated above. Make sure you find out what is allowed. I generally take just one bag with everything in it that is not a backpack.

My children and grandchildren are the reason, but it's the passion that drives me to get the perfect image of everything.

Hi,
Of course I won't carry along all that stuff, mainly I think I will be around in town with the 5D, the 17-40 and the two "100" optics. At least I'm not sure about taking the 1D with me ... so it seems possible, that even my TT Urban Disguise 50 could be enough.

Sounds like you could use a bag to travel with, and another to carry around with you?

Do you like working out of the UD50? I found the UD40 a challenge to work out of; although I kept it, I've added a Retro10 for walk around.
If I needed to carry all that gear I might look at one of the LowePro backpacks that you need to remove to get access from the back side. Flip Side? That would keep me from worrying about someone grabbing my gear when I'm caught in a crowd.

I've tried to simplify my life, and use a small P&S a lot more.

edit: Perhaps a Domke F3/X for a lightweight daybag. You can flatten it and stuff it in the flipside for travel. Just carry the part of your gear that works that day. It's a great shooter's bag; very easy to work out of.

Best,

Dave

I walked New York last weekend with a Think Tank Sling-o-Matic 30.
I had two 7D's mounted with lenses all day. Very comfortable, even for a sling bag.
Many of the museum do not allow back packs to be worn. With a sling bag they ask that you wear it slung in front. It came in very handy.

Hi,
thanks for your helpful informations.
I think, I'd go for a TT Sling-o-Matic, as a replacement for my old LowePro ... in the past I was pleased by the possibilities of this concept.
And when I'm at the place, I will take a look on a TT Retrospective at Adorama ...
