Is the 60D capable of doing a timed bulb exposure or is it a manual process (I include using the remote as part of the manual process). I'm hoping there is a menu setting I'm missing that will allow me to set a 10 second opening for instance. Thanks, Ralph

No, bulb is by definition a manual process....otherwise it would be called Tv mode.

a 10 second exposure can be done in Tv mode... up to 30sec in fact..

longer than 30sec, you need a remote... or, a piece of cork on a string and a rubber band.

It's not in the menu system.
Go to TV mode or M mode and set your exposure time upto a maximum of 30 seconds.

Might I recommend opening up your manual and having a look there.

In Tv or M mode, you can set your shutter at anywhere between 1/4000 and 30 seconds.......

Between 1/8000 and 30s, actually. To go longer you set the mode dial at B, for cameras having that setting. The 60D doesn't, so instead you find bulb when you roll past 30s in the M mode.

Canon has a remote controller called TC-80N3. It allows programming longer exposures, used with the camera set to bulb mode. But it only works with cameras with the N3 remote control socket, not the E3 the 60D uses. But I think there are third party equivalents which have adapters for the connector.

Yeah it does. There is a lovely B right on the dial.

Did some test shots this AM and all of your advice makes more sense now. I did read the section of the manual for Tv and after a few tries got it to stay open the way I wanted it to. Now, I've got to set the stage and make plans for my shoot at night...

Sorry. You're right. That position used to be occupied by the A-DEP on these cameras. Had forgotten it was replaced with B on the 60D.
