Nice set-up.. I could do with another flash!

Ideally you would want an f/stop of around f/8-f/11, unless you are shooting to get a shallow DOF & lots of bokeh!

This was shot in Maunal with both 430ex's pointed at the ground.. iso 200, f/8, 1/200th shutter

Matt Peter: Since there is nothing ambient to expose for , i would have framed the shot a bit differently, and would have also placed the front flash lower to get rid of the shadow across the plate and bumper as its a bit distracting, other than that, nice lighting.

Dranom, you're in Califreakinfornia, your weather argument for that reason is invalid, stop being a wuss and go out and shoot :)

Although it would help to have a flash meter on hand to go ahead and dial in the exposure to start with, i dont see it being a problem to do 2 or 3 quick test shots and dial in your exposure manually using the Fstop, flash output/distance to subject (if you are limited by power increments like I am) and fine tune with the ISO adjustment. I have a very similar set up, except im using a 430exii and 2 vivitar 283's (which has a VERY limited power output, so i have to resort to moving them towards or away from the subject) also using the cybersync triggers.

here is my set up shot of my car, it took me about 5 minutes to get it dialed in

and to readjust for a different angle once you have the exposure settings correct is a piece of cake as well

Knowing exactly what setting will have what effect on the ambient exposure and what seting will have what effect on your flash exposure will make the set-up process faster and faster over time. But keep in mind this is coming from a budget stand point, b/c ultimately I am going to resort to a set of alien bees and a flash meter

^very nice, did u tune ur shutter speed any or did you just adjust fstop for the correct exposure? I like to keep ISO set at 100 if possible.

and is there a secret to get the cloud shot like that?

Yes, I did adjust the shutter, but keep in mind that shutter does not affect the the flash exposure, i use the distance/ power of flash and the Fstop to expose for the flash on the car, and use the ISO slightly plus shutter to expose for the background. The 5dii is very great at even elevated ISO ranges, ive been able to get very awesome, noise-free images as high as 3200
