Hey Guys I'm having problems uploading my photos to Facebook. Can anyone tell me what is the current maximum image size for the best Quality I can get. I'm using Lightroom 3 and I just mess around with the export settings if anyone can lead me to any useful links will be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Pixels per inch has absolutely no relevance for an image viewed on a screen, it pertains only to print size. Check Facebook's rules for the maximum pixel dimensions allowed and export that size.

There's a known issue with LR>FB. But I understand that if you export at the correct size (no greater than 720px) it is fine.

LR3 comes a fb api. If you configure it properly so it resizes and sharpens before upload then fb won't reprocess the photos.

I think I use 600pixls on the long side and medium sharpen for web.

So long and thanks for all the flash

As already stated, resize to 720px yourself so FB won't resize for you and completly screw things up. They will still compres the h*ll out of them though.
As tkadrum says ^^^ They now give you the option of displaying at a higher quality when you upload so enable/check this.

Yes, it just means 720 on the longest side. You can make it any shape you like.

Yeah, but you can hardly blame them for that. When you stop to think how many photos they're hosting ... wow ... who can begrudge them a bit of compression?

No, that's not my understanding. I don't think it displays them bigger or higher quality - it just allows the bigger versions to be downloaded. This may or may not be what you want to allow. Personally, I have no purpose for anyone else downloading printable versions of the photos I post on FB.

I fully appreciate that, but it's still a fact to consider. I was just pointing out that if you want to show images online, in good quality, you don't want to host them on FB :-)

I did wonder what it meant.
