It doesn't seem very practicable but it depends on what you take pictures of.

Depends on what you shoot. I have to admit, as long as I had a few TC's, I could get by with just my Sigma 30 f/1.4 and a 70-200 f/2.8 II if I had to...

Sure, I'd miss the Sigma 8-16mm, Canon 28-70 f/2.8, and the Sigma 120-300 f/2.8, but I could definately get by...

you're selling your tamron 28-75? I wanna do the same because I find myself using mostly the long end then having to crop even more.

Stupid if you need to use any FL below 70 and beyond 200, but if it works for what you shoot - then it's a fine plan.

I know it wouldn't work for me, but everyone has different objectives.

I'm on a crop body and have my 70-200 on 75% of the time.

When I need to go wide, I flip it in portrait and take a pano.

Yeah, but not for the same reasons as you, for some reason the lens is starting to hunt for focus, catch focus but the image is OOF. This never happened before in the same lighting conditions.

which 70-200mm...

if it's the 70-200F4 non IS...then yes...i think it's stupid
if it's the 70-200f2.8 IS...then well...it's not as stupid but i still probably wouldn't do it if i were you especially since you could chop that budget and get a few lenses to work with...

Personally I would feel naked without a lens wider than 70mm. But that may be totally different for you and what you are shooting.

Even on a FF camera, i think 70mm is a bit long. tried to walk around with 70-200 before and didnt like it) I would keep the 28-75 until i saved enough money first.

Any lens can be your only lens. How happy you will be depends on a number of variables. Go with what you can afford. Zooms are a good idea when you can only afford one lens.

It really depends on what you're doing, I guess.

thanks for the input so far. Basically I only do portraiture, but I'd like to do some baseball photography. I want to sell my tamron in order to afford the 70-200 as soon as possible before baseball season is over, then save up for a nice wide angle prime or zoom while I only have my 70-200.

Now you've clarified matters, your proposition seems more sensible but why do you feel a need to ask other photographers what to do ???

I like to ask advice from people more experienced or knowledgable.
