Hi guys,

I need some help choosing my next lens, can't get to decide which one. I'm shooting full frame and I want the new lens to be good for street photography, landscape and being good in low light would be a major plus, and I would like to be able to still get a shallow depth of field.
I've already tested a 24-70 canon, which was very nice, the 2.8 was good. But at the same time I thought it laked some more mm in the long end, and I've also used a 70-200 f4 with no is, and I tough it was a bit useless in indoors and in low light, so that makes me fear the F4.

I already got a nice walk-around prime, 50 f1.4, so I prefer the next one to be a prime.

The dilemma:
Canon 24-70 F2.8 L
Canon 24-105 F4 L
Any more suggestions btw?

Thanks, and cheers.

Do you mean that you prefer the next one to be a zoom?

If you DID mean you prefer a prime, everyone seems to LOVE the 135L - I'd like to work out a way to get one for myself, but even at ~$900 used, they are a touch out of my price range right now. I may have to sit tight and wait.

OK - back to YOU (sorry). If you want a zoom - I would go with faster before longer.:)

Same thing came to my mind. I love what I've seen of the 135L(prime) on a full frame. But I think the most versatile lens for full frame is the 24-105 F4 (zoom). You just need to learn how to use flash when the light is too low.

Sorry, looks like I didn't said it right. I want my next lens to be a zoom, a versatile zoom, that can serve as walkaround and landscape lens mainly :)

Cheers.

Well, for versatility you're probably better off with the 24-105. It's capable of lower shutter speeds hand held, and it has more reach. If you need the shallower DOF/extra speed, go for the 24-70, IMO.

The better option in my opinion is the 24-70 2.8. Less distortion, no IS to fail on you and built like a tank.

I like heavy and at just on one pound in weight you will be fine.

The 24-70 is 950 grams. So that would be approx 2 lbs. I also agree that the extra weight feels nice. I just love the stability it gives.

I have the same dilemma when owning both before but the I decide to keep 24-70L and sold 24-105L which is a very good walkaround lens for outdoor. However, 24-70L is an excellent lens with low light especially wedding party and/or night concert.

Yeah thats what I think to, I used the 24-70 and it was nice in low light and I like to shot at night. And I didn't think it was super heavy, it wasn't that uncomfortable.
But I can have the chance to get a second hand 24-105 for a nice price, and that sparked my attention for it, but I also wanted to get probably a 17-40 mainly for landscapes, and that would do 2 slow zooms, which could be a bit problematic. I could have some faster primes to compensate that fact but, I'm not very fond of exchanging lenses all the time.

Cheers.

Hi there again,

I think I'm getting more into getting the 24-70mm, I think the 2.8 really makes a difference.

By the way, if anyone has one to sell in Europe (Portugal), PM me.

Cheers.
