I'm doing well on my New Year resolution to get out and do more photography! Here are some I took this week.

Red-breasted nuthatch from Sax-Zim Bog:

Female pine grosbeak, also from the Bog (fill flash would have been nice here):

Robin that I found while driving around looking for red-tailed hawks:

And lastly, a barred owl that showed up in my yard tonight. I was cooking dinner and just happened be looking out the window when it flew (taken through patio door glass):

A great series Liz! I really like the composition on the Nuthatch. Hope to see more shots from you.

Nice little Nuthatch. Been awhile since I have seen one here.

Did you get over to shoot Eagles? Wondering if it lived up to the reports. :)

Nice series Liz. Good going on your resolution this year. I especially like the nuthatch.

That's one cold-looking Robin! You can see it on his face ... 'why didn't I go south for the winter?!!!'

Love the owl. Wish I'd get a shot at one sometime.

Thanks all for looking and commenting! I forgot to include a rough-legged hawk from Sax Zim Bog, more of an environmental shot:

I was very excited about the owl last night, cool to see it so close. As for robins, actually many do stay around for the winter. They're not as obvious as in the spring, but they're easy to find if you know what to look/listen for. This robin was one of 3 or 4 that were mixed in with a big flock of starlings, in some crabapple trees by an office building.

Mitch, I did make it down to Alma for the eagles. I found a boat dock right on the water just past the dam, so the potential is there if the eagles are cooperative and conditions are right. When I visited, the wind was blowing the wrong way so the eagles were circling against the sun. And it was cold as heck on that boat dock, which I wasn't really dressed for! I was thinking of going back down there later in March to give it another try when more eagles are hopefully moving through.

Good looking shots Liz... you got some nice light on the "hatch"... I think I recognize the "branch" the pretty female grosbeak is sitting on :)... did you see the Boreal Chickadee at the bog?

Heh, no I didn't go to the Admiral Rd feeders. I've seen the boreal chickadees many times so went to some different feeders that I hadn't been to before (this was during the festival last weekend.) We also saw a great gray owl and I got a terrible photo of it though a dirty school bus window, at ISO 6400 and 1/12" exposure. ;)

I tried going outside for the owl but it wouldn't have any of that. Before I could get into position it flew to another tree. I forgot to turn off my motion detecting floodlight before going out, and I think that scared it!
