I can't figure out which one I want to buy. I keep going back and forward. I have a tamron 28-75 2.8 and I also need a telephoto. I rented a 70-200 2.8 IS II, but I know its no way I can't pay 2k + for a lens. The wife is letting me buy a mark I verson or the 24-70 2.8. People keep saying in all the post the image quality are very close and its not worth paying 900ish more for the canon.

It's hard to compare those two lenses since they have such different focal lengths. If you don't need the long end of the 70-200, then there's no reason to spend the money on it. Then again, that Sigma won't have the build quality the Canon does...

If you have the tamron there is little reason to move to the canon 24-70.

Perhaps consider the Sigma 70-200 2.8 OS. AF is just as fast and accurate as the canon 70-200 2.8 IS II and sharpness is similar to the 70-200 2.8 IS, perhaps just a teeny bit worse, but nothing that will matter 99% of the time, and definitely better than the original 70-200 2.8 that many pros have used for years quite successfully.

At $1399 it is a heck of a lot more affordable than the canon equivalents.

Well I decided to go with the 24-70 2.8 and I will just add a renting fee to all my wedding packages until I can buy the 70-200 2.8 IS later on this year or next year. Thanks everyone!

Go get the 70-200 F4L IS.

Edit - Too late. Personally I think you already had that focal length covered. Get the 70-200, then upgrade to the 24-70 if you need it.

But it doesn't matter because it is an amazing lens. Good luck!

Then you should deduct the price of the 70-200 from your packages first as you did not buy it ;-)a

Another quick question. I'm about to buy one for $1150, but amazon has one for $1258 Should I buy the new one instead? I'm thinking yes.

Why ? If you have the ability to test the used one before buying why not to get it ?
$100 for the warranty is not that of a good deal.

I was buying it off here, so I won't be able to test it.
