Okay, so I fully respect and admire the talent that comprises the body of this forum,
and I have donated funds a few times. It's an outstanding resource for everyone,
from newbies to professionals alike, to exchange friendly and helpful advice.
I continue to learn, and I honestly enjoy helping others whenever I am able to.

However, I've just noticed for the first time, a HUGE number of viewers on the G&N
section, as opposed to every other photo-sharing section:

IMAGE: http://i936.photobucket.com/albums/ad207/Sked2/Miscellany/gn.jpg
Image was captured just a few minutes before this post, and you'll easily see
the disparity of numbers.

I fully understand that this sort of photography is indeed serious business, and I've
looked around there before and even offered a comment 3 or 4 times, but what I don't
understand is the ridiculously high numbers of people hitting that section as compared
to everything else. Are you all just voyeurs?

I am honestly not trying to antagonize other menbers here; it just seems that there
are huge numbers of people who want to view pinups and centerfolds. I hit the Urban,
Marketplace, Accessories, B&W and Transportation areas each time I log in here,
and it's a rarity when I wander into the G&N section.
It just strikes me as odd, or obsessive, or voyeuristic, or maybe just plain creepy.
Is this what the majority of POTNers like, or is it something of an anomaly that I
happened to see the very high numbers of visitors to the G&N section?

I just checked and saw that 370 people were viewing the Canon EF and EF-S lenses section, 243 were viewing the Canon EOS digital cameras section and 122 viewing the G&N section. Sounds like most viewers are more turned on by gear lust than anything else.

Thanks for clarifying it for me, Paul.
I had no idea what I should think about the elevated numbers.

When I get on PotN, I first check UserCP to see what is happening on my subscribed threads. Then I go to Quick Links to see Today's Posts. I'll queue pages 1 through 10, and go through each to see what seems interesting. I shun "HELP ME I'M CLOOLESS" posts. I stay clear of "My First ____" posts. Anything with HDR is similarly repulsive to me. Certain types of photo threads on PotN are usually going to be (how can I say this) not worth my time. For instance, most (but certainly not all) of the maternity shots posted here are terrible and vulgar, just a tasteless shot of a bloated abdomen, of a quality lower than that of a snapshot. (A pregnant woman is a beautiful thing, nude or otherwise, and can be wonderfully photographed. For all of the quality photography on PotN, this area lacks.)

Well, ahem. Yes. Anyway, as I review the pages of Today's Posts, I'm likely to find various G&N threads of interest. In part it's because of the art and beauty. In part it's because I'm male and driven accordingly. I like beautiful, sexy, bright, and intelligent women. Photos of them will attract me. I don't typically seek G&N threads, but the thread titles and the consequent matter draw me. I have no problem with that.

Canon EF and EF-S Lenses (398 Viewing)
Canon EOS Digital Cameras (250 Viewing)

Not sure why it even matters.

it all depends on when you check it... I have seen it when there was only 9 people in it... and the G&N has rules and regulations so what exactly are you trying to say??? I visit it and comment when I feel I need to... I also visit just about every other forum on here also...

I know, right? I'm just sayin'...

And why is this a problem to you? If it bothers you so much that you can see there are more viewers of G&N forum than other forums at times then there is a very easy fix for it. Just let me know and you won't be bothered by that anymore ;)

It's not.

I just had to wonder why there were so many viewers at that time, but I'll be damned if I know why I made such a big deal out of it.

Now why'd ya have to go and stick yer who-who-dilly in the hornets nest?

Seriously, if you're that upset about it, maybe you should turn your attention and disgust to the rather-sizable number of pRon sites on the interweb.

That said, I've always been amused by the numbers in the shared images sections as well.

I don't even have G&N as an option on my menu. I asked the mods to delete it from my boards.

Thank you. bw!

Just out or curiosity, why'd you go to such lengths to deactivate it? Wouldn't it be easier to just not click that sub-forum? To ensure that family members with access to that computer wouldn't happen upon it?

I've read about it being requested and granted, for the reason you mention: A family computer which is used by children. Seems easier to me to just log out, though.

I am not sure that the numbers for non GN forums are accurate and simply because there are non members who access these forums. Not sure if the forum software counts non members.

Non members cannot see G&N! So all views are by members.

I wouldn't want to see the G&N forum disappear from my screen, although I did once unsuccessfully ask a cable company not to include adult TV channels which were included as part of a package.

I admit to looking at the G&N forum which isn't pornagraphic but I rarely find images to suit my taste, the reason being that most are what I'd describe as novelty images. However, I accept that it's each to his or her own and I generally refrain from offering adverse critique, as I don't post pictures there myself.
