580EX II LCD going dark?

When I switch on the light, there's a dark cloud on the left third of the LCD panel. When the light is off, it's clear.

Anybody else experienced this?

I've posted a similar query on a couple other forums. Haven't yet heard from anyone else who's seen it.

One poster suggested reading the much-discussed Pocket Wizard report. Not knowing how the flash internals are engineered, I'm wondering: Even if the flash was arcing, is there any way soot could travel from the flash head to the LCD panel? Aren't they housed in separate shells?

So far, the flash works fine as both master and slave.
