nice raptor! What new toy do you find soft at F-16? All of mine (massive collection of 3) are!

Actually that reminds me, I am thinking of a 77mm ND filter for my 100-400 to try and bring back the aprature to more "normal" on those real bright days when I want to slow it down.

Good ones!

Finding it soft at f16 and higher

I've often wondered why Canon won't give us ISO 25 & 50. How hard could it be?

The 5dii can be expanded low to ISO 50. I wish they had it in the 7d though.

Don't get me wrong. Loving the new lens but not getting the number of sharper shots I expected with IS. Oh yeah and my sensor needs a clean :(

Raptor, you forgot to mention what your new lens is! Is it the dust pump?

I asked the same question a while back. The answer was far too technical for me!

I couldn't care less for ISO 900,000,000,000, with more grain than a full grain silo, give me 50 or 25 anyday!

not that it actually pumps dust of course!

Mine comes alive at around F7 which is why I'd like a ND filter to be able to get back down there on sunny days at low shutter speeds. It is is a little "frosty" at 5.6, still sharp, just I'd describe it as halo-ie, if that makes any sense?

Isn't diffraction more a body thing however? Meaning certain bodies have points at which it starts going downhill rather than the lens...or is it a combo thing?

Most lenses are sharpest about 2-3X (f-stops) stopped down from wide open. After that, diffraction will start to degrade the image.

Good shots but should have tried F/8-F/13 ... That's what my friend uses with his 40D and 100-400L

f8- f13 is ok for Av mode but prop aircraft need Tv or full auto for slow shutter which depending on lighting determines f-stop. those numbers wont always get you where you need to be.
