This shoot (external link) was one that I’ve been dreaming up since October 2010. Unfortunately I didn’t have the resources until recently to pull it off (studio lights and a makeup artist), but my dreams came true today with this “Ice Queen” theme. The look for this shoot was partially inspired by the White Queen from the film “Narnia”. I wanted to make the model look like she was half frozen, but still beautiful and fierce.

And for those who are interested in seeing how I edit my photos in Adobe Lightroom, here's a video demonstrating my post-production workflow for these images (external link).

The concept is cool, but I think the make up needs to be touched up alot in post. There are parts that look faded or smudged and it grabs my attention.
The model also looks sad, instead of fierce..

She does remind me of the Queen from Narnia...though maybe not quite so evil looking. So I'd say she's the nice twin sister. haha.
I think you pulled of "ice queen" well.

I can agree with the others on the "fierceness" missing from the model. She was an amateur and this was her second shoot (first with me). Unfortunately I don't have the budget for professional models and the local free talent where I live is rather limited. I was trying to do the best with what I had.

I intended to have the model wear some crystal jewelry that I had prepared, but I completely forgot about it the day of the shoot. I tend to do that a lot. I meant to take a wide shot of the setup for demonstration purposes and forgot to do it 5 minutes after I asked my wife to remind me.

I suggest that others check out the video that I posted to view the postproduction workflow to see how the image looked out of camera. The look (especially the makeup) completely changed when I upped the brightness.

I watched the video and I do agree the difference is huge.
I think you did very well with what you had to work with, my comment was not meant to be rude or anything so I hope you didn't take it that way. What I meant was on projects such as this, the image will need to be touched up alot in post due to the fact make up smudges, its un even etc... the fact im able to see that in your images takes away from the final look, these can be corrected in post.

I can even do a quick edit in photoshop to provide an idea, if you'd like. I would need the full res image though.

it was -46 where I live today, lol and I saw this and I felt the chill come back haha, great photographs, thanks for sharing, I think if you had the chrystals in there it would make it feel that much colder. To me its a great shoot, just remember on here you are being judged by other photographers, keep up the good work and keep coming back with new ideas.

Maybe call this model back and get the chrsytals on her and see what it looks like the 2nd time around, we have a life time of challenge.

Thanks again for sharing

Thanks everyone for your feedback. Sorry that I took a little offense to siiilent's post, it was just a little discouraging to see some negative feedback on the very first post. I do plan to spend some time photoshopping a select few of the images. Right now I've only used Lightroom to correct exposure and do some very basic touchups. The makeup was wearing off around the eyes an left some noticeable cracks. It's going to be difficult touching these up without taking out some of the elements that make it look cold (fake ice crystals and glitter sparkles).

We shot this in Florida, so we don't even know the meaning of cold down here. On the day of the shoot it was maybe in the low 70's.
