Hi there,

Desktop PC user thinking of making the jump. I've done all the consideration regarding the difference between the two platforms, and aside from the cost difference I am comfortable with a move to Mac. I'm not too keen on the iMac as a solution, so I was hoping to hear from anyone that uses a Macbook Pro + monitor as their main editing workstation. Any pro's / con's? Looking at the performance of the new ones the MBP seems to rival desktop performance.

Cheers.

Curious on this question myself.

Dorman, are you looking at a 15"? Matte or Glossy screen? High Res screen? I'm wondering how it would be just to edit right on the Pro versus even an external monitor.

What kind of monitor are you thinking of getting?

I would most definitely look at matte screen / anti-glare. I find glossy looks great at the right angle, but it's not representative of the actual image as it's extra contrasty and saturated, and picks up glare like mad.

I would do dual display as I enjoy working with two monitors. I have a matte 24" Dell LCD monitor and color calibration system for ensuring my monitor is accurate, I like it very much.

I just bought a loaded 13inch Macbook pro ( 2.7 mhz, 8g memory and 750 hard drive) and external monitor. Will let you know how this works out for me! To my mind, this was a better option than getting the 15 inch alone. and cost about the same.
