Wireless Flash for Canon 40D

Okay I know nothing about using flash, I want to start practicing on some of the cars I'm going to shoot next week for my friends (for free). I have a thread up about set ups, could probably be closed.

If I purchase some YN460IIs what else will I need to fire these flashes and what settings should I start out using to shoot cars in the day (want to bring out detail in the cars and underexpose the sky)

I was thinking:

2 - YN460s
2 - Stands
2 - RN602 Triggers
2 - Softboxes?

Anything else? How will I get these to flash from my Canon 40D?


Any settings I need to be aware of? Do I shoot in AV? Full power flash?

Flash in manual, camera in M. Power depends on the ISO, aperture, and distance from light to the subject. A handheld incident light meter is very useful with off camera flash.

It is asking a lot of 2 camera flashes to overpower the sun and light a complete car. They will help fill in some shadows but you are going to have to go out early or late to overpower the sky.
As for triggering, you have RF-602's listed. You will have the transmitter in the hotshoe and a receiver connected to each flash. You might be able to get by with just one receiver and use the optical slave that is built into the flash, but for reliability I would go with two receivers.
Modifiers like umbrellas will be useful for low light shoots but you are already short on power so I would use bare flash for daytime shoots.
