So, I got my 1Ds Mark II recently and have had a blast shooting. I'm looking for some critiques (both technical and artistic) on some of my better than average shots. Interestingly, despite my M42 lenses being my favorites, all three of these were done with actual EF lenses.

Tamron 70-300 VC at MM handheld. We had a large ice storm come through with 1-2 solid inches, and this leaf got pinned down. I like the contrasting orange/blue color, but I'm not sure on the composition.

Silhouettes in flight, Tamron 70-300 again. I can't help but feel like this would be more powerful as a selective crop but don't want to lose the sun.

EF35-80 with the front chopped off. One of my favorite macro lenses, selective color isn't my favorite but it really helped her skin tones, I'm a big fan of the clarity in it.

If that eye had a bit more DoF, it would'dve been $$$$

I agree with you on that one. Next time I'll probably go with a higher ISO+tripod so I can get a narrower aperture. This was admittedly one of my first 100 shots, and I wasn't well-versed on the technicals.

I'm curious for any opinions on first, my initial reaction is that the Tamron lacks the microcontrast/super-sharpness that typically makes macro worth looking at, but I'm not even sure of the composition.

I agree with the comments, but nice work on all three. Really like the composition.
