So I took my camera out of my bag with the 70-200 on it, and it felt a little wobbly. At the point where the focus ring meets the switches on the sides, it wobbles now. Here's a video of it.

Also, the focus ring doesn't sound very good at all. I definitely plan on sending it to canon, but does anyone have an estimate on what it would cost? I'm guessing it'll be over $200, but I hope not much more because I'm a broke college kid! This just made me sick when I discovered it. I love this lens so much :(

Ouch. I can only assume something is loose and/or something has snapped, but you'd assume all the optics and electronics will be fine so probably not too expensive. Fingers crossed for you!

What happened to your bag? It must surely have either been crushed or dropped? Bit too much of a coincidence to happen while it's in a bag.

That's the thing, I have no idea how it happened. My camera has been in its bag since thursday, and I haven't dropped it or crushed it at all. When I put my bag in the car, I give it a light push to get it to the passenger seat, but it never really smashed off of anything hard enough to do that. Hell, my 50D and 17-85 fell off of my bed in my dorm at penn state a good 3 feet on to the floor pretty hard and that didn't have any effect on it at all. I'd think the 70-200 is built a bit better than that.

Is it under warranty ? Looks like something got loose, probably a missing screw or something.

Looks like a f/4 IS I never thought they were rock solid. But that doesn't matter I had a 70-200 2.8 IS that Fedex broke for me. Although mine was a little different mine was bent can't couldn't move the focus ring and I sent it in expecting the worse but they fixed it for about $190 and that included replacing parts. My guess is it will not be anymore than what I paid.

The OP's lens is a f/2.8L IS. You can see it in the video, it also says so in his signature.

Take Care,
Cheers, Patrick

I don't know but that does not look good. Strange that it would happen just sitting in the bag
