For almost the same amount of money I can get either of these. I do not have any other lenses from either company so it is not a matter of switching systems...just wanted to know which one seems like the better set up...Video quality is not a huge factor for me. Thanks for any input you can give!

Definitely go for 60D/17-50 combo!

For what purposes and how do you treat your cameras? The Pentax setup is miles ahead of the weather sealing of the 60D + Tamron if that's important, but the variable aperture part and the 5.6 at 55mm on kit lenses can be quite limiting for serious photography.

Thank you both for your comments...99% landscape. What about bodies 60D vs K5 without regards to the two lenses that I mentioned. Weather sealing is nice but I rarely shoot in crazy conditions.

The K5 does have some small technical advantages that would make it slightly better suited than the 60D for landscape photography (100% coverage viewfinder for example). The only real advantage over the K5 that the 60D has is the articulating screen but that's a moot point if you're shooting without a tripod. Everything else - flip a coin and see where it lands (unless you need up to 1/8000 shutter speeds).

easier to get used lenses/accessories if you go for canon.

Pentax K-5 has a little better noise control than 60D but otherwise I'd say no (unless you really need weather sealing). AF is slower too.

This + more available/wider selection of lenses in general. This was one of the main reasons I switched from Pentax. All of the "mid" level bodies (K5, 60D, 7D, D7000, etc etc) are plenty capable depending on your needs. But remember, you're buying into the system that goes with that body.

I used a Pentax K20d for a few years before I made the switch a Canon 7d. While the image quality at ISO 800 and below was excellent, Pentax's lens selection is lacking compared to Canon. After a few years of shooting with the Pentax system, I found that it just wasn't for me.

What you really need to consider is which system has lenses that better match the kind of pictures you want to take.

Something else you should really do, if you haven't already, is goto a local camera store and play around with both cameras. While one camera may be a better value, I'd personally say the Canon is, the ergonomics of a camera is something you cant get a feel for yourself until you use one in real life.

99% landscape, perhaps
->you will be shooting at f/8 or slower.
-> you may need larger DR
-> you may need weather sealing
-> you may need lighter body. (hikes)
-> you don't care about AF

Then K5 fits the bill.
pair-up with some pancakes or older Super-Takumar primes.

Canon making their consumer level body cheap and lens expensive.. (like priner-ink model)

60d with the tamron, faster lens. And it is better then the 18-55 kit lens from pentax.

That is true, unless you are using a sdm form pentax, or a HSM form sigma, or the new DC motor form pentax. The kit lens of the pentax slows it's AF down.

The K-5 is a high-end professional body with better IQ and AF than Canon's flagship full-frame.

The 60D is a prosumer model directed at video.

Seems like no contest (external link), if you're doing landscape the ISO, DR, viewfinder, weather sealing. Assuming you break out into other areas of photography the K-5 pulls even further ahead with AF/FPS/IS.

Not, hate to say that, the 5D has much better IQ with the sample shot. That K-5 false rumor that it was better then FF has been proven false.

It is a very good camera. But it is still not at the level of a 7D or d300s or d300. I like pentax. But the reality of the hot press has proven that it is on par IQ wise with aps-c not FF.
