What are your thoughts?

Glass I am considering buying are

Canon 17-40
Tamron 17-50
Tokina 12-24

PS:

I will also be purchasing at a later time,
Canon 50mm 1.8

You have to start us from the beginning. What do have, what do like to shoot, etc.

If you are just buying your first camera (60D? ) get the 18-135 kit lens to get you going.

Sorry my questions was not complete, sold all my prevoiuse equiptment and currently only play with my Canon S95. I mainly shoot landscape, but like to have a lens for family activities as well.

Recommend the Canon 17-55mm IS 2.8 for a crop camera. Tack sharp pictures, fast, not that heavy and the zoom range covers 95% of the pictures you'll be taking....more if you're taking landscape. You can save a few dollars on other lens but you can't improve on this lens.
