can this photo be fixed

This is an old polaroid of me and my pals, I want to preserve the pic , because a couple of the fellas are not here anymore. What all could I do to it, with what?

Whatever software you use to edit images, you should be able to correct the white balance to bring the color back some (w/b adjustment will work best if you remove the border). You can remove or at least reduce the amount of dust/scratches but you won't be able to sharpen the image as it was a bit out of focus when it was shot.

Here's a quick edit I did using CS5 for white balance and contrast.

I think the image is perfect as is. Read the countless threads here where people explicitly want to find out how to make their 20MPx 16 bit color image look like your polaroid. Ironic.

What exactly do you think needs fixing? A nice high res scan will preserve the data and you can print that to your liking.

The original can be kept under glass out of direct sunlight to help prevent the inevitable fading. It is a terrific image that captured a really nice moment in a very nostalgic way.

I also think that it's great as it is...but if you want more details I tried presrving some with topaz plugin..you could get better results managing this selectively..here you go

almost any photo can have a fair bit of fixing done, i mean you can't add any extra detail really but you can fix up the scratches and do general contrast/tonal corrections and colour corrections.

i didn't work on the whole image but i did some cleaning up and a little colour correction, if you want the psd file ill keep it for a few days so just let me know.

Easily. Do a better scan though.

Clean up the spots/dust. Adjust color. Make an adjustment layer mask and select Multiply as the blending mode.
