Congrats man!

I'm still mad..95% of the parts for my computer have shipped and i need a mobo D:

Thanks man im not going to lie it was PIA!!! Had to call adobe to transfer over lincenses. Had to email my plug-in software companies to get new keys etc etc. Then transferring everything over. THANK THE LORD my external hard drives were mac/pc compatible as i was able to easily link my LR catalog with everything in tact. Transferring all my music took like 3 hours to copy. So yeah although its easy in theory going through it all takes a while!

When the hell are those mobos going to be available?

If you ever want to figure out just how much you don't know about cars I have some practice tests for our licensing exam. Passing grade is 70%. Martin may do well...

I know i would fail! Martin has rebuilt cars so i expect him to do decent. Me i know a lot but i doubt i could pass one of those exams.

Well... I'm back 8 pages later.

So I see Monk3y is doing a great job at convincing himself to spend even more money.

Im thinking of buying the timecpasule from apple. Its a wifi router with either 1TB or 2TB that backs up my computer and allows me to use files off it. Anyone run a wireless setup to access say a lightroom catalog. I hate being tied down to my external HDD. I mean if there arent any other options then i guess thats the route to stay in.

What I would suggest if you really want to work over your network, is get a good wifi router, and then a nice quick NAS (Heck get a nice Raid 5 NAS, faster speeds and redundency ;)).. Then you have various options for running on it. One you can run over wifi, you can run over lan, or heck you could unplug the thing and go straight into your computer if needed as well.

But the storage and router are independent so either can be upgraded, and I can guarentee you per TB it's going to be way cheaper, and you have control over what type of drives are installed, and various other things.

Currently i have a Lynksys wireless N router. My mac is flying with that thing on. So i guess its a matter of getting a very good NAS and hook it up. I want to be able to stream my LR catalog over the air and also have the ability to back up that drive connected to the router to another one.

What do you suggest as a good NAS?

This is the wirless router i have now:

I just didnt know much about that particular board until i looked at it a bit and by then it was too late....

I am hoping there will be more shipments, im guessing newegg doesnt refresh stock over the weekend but nonetheless i still have the 1155 board page pulled up and i keep hitting refresh every few hours

I just dont wanna risk things being defective and me ending up out of the return policy...

There is a program you can use to have it email you when something comes up in stock. Someone posted a link to it in the CLP thread when everyone was going crazy refreshing for instock 5dmkII. Go look in there. It will save you a lot of hastle.

Well you can use timecapsule to back up to any external so the backup is the easy part.

For the NAS, I'd suggest getting an enclosure and filling it with WD Caviar Blacks.

As for which, depends on how much you want to spend, and how much room you need/want.

Ive actually looked at the Drobo S. (JULIAN AND MARTIN YES IT COMES BACK TO THIS). Or going with a different setup and filing it up. For now 3 2tb should be enough. I know in the future that will fill up.

I wonder if i can setup timecapsul to back up and external drive to another external drive hmm

Don't go Drobo, extremely expensive and realy not all that great.

They use their own proprietary raid that just isn't great.

Sans Digital makes some nice external enclosures (never used one of their NAS's, but I've used several of their other enclosures), there are a lot of good NAS enclosures if you look around places like newegg though.
