Anyone can give an insight on how automotive magazine usually pays for a 5-8 pages feature?
Is $100/page pretty accurate?
What about for a cover feature?

Thanks.

I did a shoot for the cover of an auto body magazine that is not available on newsstands but was distributed to virtually all auto body shops in North America. With the shoot and licensing it was just under 3K. I have no idea what a mulitple page would be, it is driven by circulation and its popularity to a certain degree. 100.00 per page is way low in my opinion.

My life is like one big RAW file....way too much post processing needed.

Depends almost entirely on the circulation rate of the magazine as well as the target market of the magazine.

$100.00/page would be insulting for some and right on pace for others, it really depends on the mag. Can you give us an idea of the percentage of coverage on the page as well as the circulation numbers?

What ever your shooting fee is and somewhere between $250 to $450 a page would be my guess.

Wouldn't hurt to ask the what there budget is.

My hourly rate for commercial work is 3 times my none commercial rate, pluse expences.
Or a day rate pluse expences. I charge for all editing time @ commercial rates.

BTW, this is for tuner mags like Import Tuner, Modified, Eurotuner, etc.
Not big name mags like C&D, R&T.

Those prices were for advertisment mag's.
They also have a website thell put them on and there site is full of money making advertisement for them.

If they wanna play big time, they get the same rates.

Your gear, time and knowledge, cost the same no matter who they are!

If they like your work, they'll purchase it, otherwise they are just looking for handouts to line there bank account with.

Oh my... fairly discouraging. I was published in one of the small 350z magazines a few years ago and never got paid. I was young and a full time job, so I didn't cry, but still a bummer.

Money before usage, works every time.

It sounds harsh but, if it's not in there budget to pay me before it goes to print, they couldn't afford me in the first place. There risk not mine.

Being published and asked to shoot for a magazine are two different things.

For a commercial shoot i don't even step out the door for $200 bucks.

However, if a magazine wants to use one of my images (being published) of a car i shot of a friend then that's a different story. This depends on circulation and rights they want to the image.
