Ordered a few thingies:

- Omni cap for my flash
- Vivitar TTL off camera flash cable
- remote shutter release
- Hood for lens
- Canon 50mm 1.8 II USA lens

Well, paid 2 day shipping, and just got it.

Everything well, I was ready to write a nice review, and then noticed, my 50mm lens is a MALASYA model, and not the USA i've come to learn and love.

I know these things happen, I am not shooting down Adorama, etc etc.

In your Opinion, what should I do? It's a 50mm lens, nothing super great. I did notice the AF/MF button was noisy, and overall was weirded out by the lens. It was then that I noticed the MADE IN MALASYA and checked my order.

Adorama wants me to ship it back, wait 10 business days, and then they will send me the replacement lens. Which ticks me off, since I spent almost $30 on the expedited shipping, so I could work on photos this weekend.

What would you do?...

From what I've read on this forum, there isn't any difference between USA models and imported ones - although I must admit that I thought all Canon lenses were made in Japan.

Dont confuse made in malaysia with the difference between the US and Import designation. They are likely all made in malaysia and are labled as such. The difference between the US version and import or gray market version is whether canon usa authorized their importation and will fully support the warranty.

Some of the consumer lenses are made in china and other asian countries. The L lenses are all built if Japan, unless something has changed recently.

shoot it this weekend and send it back monday or tuesday, you have 14 days to return.

Did it come with a japan international warranty card. If so the lens is covered in the USA by canon USA.

Thanks for the good responses, everyone. Will do.
:) The rest of the items came perfectly.

Check out the Vivitar shoe cable !! it was less than $20, and it has Canon's new locking system, full metal hotshoe, it works like a charm !!

If the warranty card is from canon usa, you got a USA market one.

PS the 50 is noisy all around, the button in noise when switch back and forth, and as it AF it is noise. Even MF the ring is kinda of noise. Good optically, but you really can not expect much from a 100 dollar lens with build quality.

Very true. Ashamed to say, this is only my sixth copy of the lens in the last almost decade.

The one I have is 17 years old, and still works fine. Had to have it clean last year because of allot of dust from the years of uses. But found a local repair guy to clean it for 50 dollars.

What are you guys doing to your lens's that you have to replace them so often? I always hear that about those 50's! I have to wonder what people are whacking them into :)

nikon's $100 50/1.8D is a dream, comparatively. Although it doesn't have an onboard motor, so...

Yup! I have it as well which was why I was confused! I see what your saying about the motor, too bad once that breaks it can't just use the camera instead as back up/longevity.
