I like Will Crockett very much but today's webinar by senior photographer Ty Fischer called "Travel Lighly, Shoot big" as probably the worst video that I have ever watched on lighting/shooting. Will should screen folks before putting them on front of the camera.

i have watched a number of Will's Friday School videos...most of what he says can be summed up in about ten minutes rather than the 60 minute video presentation

I've actually given a lot of feedback to FridayPhotoSchool and rather than seeing improvements, all I'm seeing are some complimentary tickets.

I've been a fan of Will Crockett's for a while, not so much because he's a great photographer or a brilliant lighting guru, but because he's an excellent teacher for the novice and beginner that needs things explained in more detail than a lot of what's found in other places. He teaches using proven methods like repetition and demonstration.

I've seen many of the lessons with Will as the speaker and I've seen many of the lessons with outside photographers and I can definitely say that all of the lessons taught by outside photographers have been terrible and actually gotten worse.

In a way it's ironic that Will's lessons are the free ones and they make you pay for the others.

Aside from the fact that most of these men and women are not teachers or educators and don't have that skill (not knocking them as photographers at all), there is a lot of conflicting information and incorrect terminology.

I had no trouble figuring out what they really meant but again, for the beginner, it's going to do nothing but confuse them.

In todays lesson Ty Fischer kept referring to transmitters as receivers, and vice versa, and his metering technique completely contradicts the method Will uses and stresses constantly. Without getting into which method is right or wrong and all that... Every time Will takes a meter reading he shows and stresses that the meter's dome must be pointing back at the lens. Ty, on the other hand, took a reading today, and pointed the dome back at the source of illumination.

That's a bad thing when they're trying to educate. Style is one thing, but this is basic technique, and if they're going to acknowledge that the other method is acceptable then they should explain how and why, otherwise it's just one teacher contradicting another.

Anyway, for the beginner, some of the lessons are ok but the best ones there are those that are free to download. Beyond that I really can't recommend spending money on FridayPhotoSchool.

Sorry Will. I'm a fan but FPS.. not so much. ;)

Robert, today's things was horrible. The guy didn't show anything about ambient vs flash. All he did was put the meter under chin and said use f4 or whatever. Comeone, if you charging $10 guy should know this basic stuff. I know being in front of camera can be nerve recking but there wasn't any useful information in that seminar.
