Nice ones- not carrying anything, those are the typical palps of a male spider (look like boxing gloves) and are actually specifically shaped to carry sperm packets (spiders do it by hand).
A bit of overexposure in both photographs on the spider's abdomen.

Yes it will as it has IS. I have the non IS version but have read that the new L IS one is very good indeed, especially combined with the 7D camera (which I dont have). Seems to be a great combination of the two from what I have read.
