Twinsburg (OH) vs Wadsworth. Didn't think our guys (white) had a chance against the blue team who beat a really good team to get to our game tonight. Our guys lead the entire game and cruised to a 7-point win.

All shots (I'll post more later) 7D and Sigma 85mm f/1.4 lens shooting at f/2.

Big guy loading up on the baseline for an easy two:

#22 took over the game in the 2nd half. Probably had 20 or so points including a couple of three-balls tonight

More to come just too tired to process any more shots right now.

I like the action in #2 going for the layup.

thanks! I've shot so many frames of basketball this season, I look for what's going on around the action anymore. I like #23 and his 'Ole' expression as he lets #22 fly past him for the score!

Other things I've been looking for is our guys shooting 3-balls from in front of the opposing team student section. You get great expressions of the kids doing everything in their power to rattle a shooter into a missed shot. Just love the HS kids and have a blast shooting at the games.

Enjoy the heck out of shooting our (white) team. Another tournament game coming up Wed. evening. Not sure the boys will make it past another tough team. We'll see.

Thanks for looking. All shots 7D, Sigma 85mm f/1.4 @ f/2, ISO 2000.

I'm new & shooting USSSA 17U tourneys. I find I can get good shots during practice, like this: (click to enlarge)

but during the play I find the under-basket area too crowded/fast... I either miss the action I want or it's all blocked. I guess I need to keep at it till my timing gets better - or maybe I'll go to burst shots.

Right now, I'm mostly taking "action-portrait" type shots for the ego of the individual players - they'll put them on Facebook, etc. Stuff on the outside like this: (click to enlarge)

Agree that #1 is a great shot! Getting action during the game is a different story. Here are a couple things that helped me with framing the action:

The 7D allows me to position the centerpoint focus square via the joystick and choose a different position when shooting vertically and horizontally. When shooting vertically, I click the focus square DOWN 2 positions from center. This allows me to keep the focus square on the jersey numbers and keep (usually!) keep the player's head, the ball and most of the time the rim/net in the pic. Took awhile to 'learn' this on my own. I set both points before shooting and the camera remembers them based on the orientation of the camera. Another 'set it and forget it' feature of the 7D.

For the foul shot rebounding shot, I have the focus square one click UP so I can keep focus on the player's faces and get (again, usually!) faces in focus and feet in the shot as well.

If the Ti2 has this feature, move the focus square DOWN 2 clicks when shooting vertical and UP one click when shooting horizontally. See if this helps with better framing for you.

Hi Mark:

Thank you. Standard is 1/640, f/2 on the lens and in this gym, (very well lit!) ISO was 2000. The first two settings are always the same, only thing I change is the ISO setting depending on light ... or lack OF light!

the other thing to note is that using the 85mm means my best vantage point for framing is pretty much right on the sideline and about 5' behind the baseline. So basically, I'm looking right down the sideline the entire length of the court. I only shoot from about the 3-point line and closer.
