Any comments on this lens from current or past owners?

Remember, this is the newer version of this lens with HSM.

Have it, like it, use it. Also have the Canon 24-70 2.8. Both work equally well as each other. Very good value for money. I got it as a back up and because of the longer guarantee.

AF is accurate. It can mis focus but no more than the Canon 24-70 does.

No back focus or front focus issues, I never have had focus issues with any of the Sigma lenses I have had.

I've had terrific luck with mine! Focuses in all lighting situations very well!
It has been use on 40D,50D,5D and now a 7D with great accuracy.

Great Lens!

I think I was one of the first in the USA to get this lens. It performs better at the center than the Canon EF 24-70 f/2.8L I tried and is about 75% the weight and a lot shorter. Mine is due back from CRIS tomorrow for a front-focus issue. I had my 5Dii at +18 and all was well, so I had no compelling reason to send it in. However, I've been shooting with my EOS 3 quite a bit lately and it doesn't have MFA, thus the trip to CRIS. Hopefully it will be spot-on when I get tomorrow.

Cool. Looking forward to more commentary.

I've compared it head to head with the Canon 24-70 f2.8 and it is just as good, I would recommend the Sigma 24-70 f2.8 HSM to anyone who doesn't need weather sealing.

I received my 24-70 HSM from CRIS today and it is spot-on. My 5Dii is now set at 0 on MFA. I should have done this two years ago when I bought the lens. Water under the bridge, now.

Tony Glad to see all is well! I own nothing else but Sigma! In Canada or depot for Sigma is Gentec out of Toronto, where I send every lens for Calibration. They keep a record of all my lenses, with calibration required for each lens which has added to the performance from the history of that particular camera body. Basically by tracking calibration from the history of my lenses has enable them to more accurately chip or calibrate any new lens. So in a nut shell my Sigma lens perform extremely well. If you are able to do this under warranty the cost is minimal and the benefits obvious!

Brady

After weeks of looking at other forums, I have found it very difficult to find users/reviews of the HSM version of this lens!

I used to own this lens, and I've regretted selling it more than once. It was a disaster on my old 50D....but an absolute peach on my 5D2. Sold it because I found I wasn't using it...and ended up getting a 28-70L. Highly recommend the Sigma. ;-)a

I tried one once, the HSM version, when I still had a 40D. Sigma had a booth at a photo show and a studio setup with hot lights. Out of the 7 shots I took with it, 1 was in focus. I could understand if the lens came from inventory but this was Sigma, at a show, allowing people to try out lenses on their bodies. You would think they would make sure they had good working copies.

I bought a Tamron 28-75 :-)

Bohdan - I may be, and probably am, completely wrong.
