Alright so I'm not gunna make a big sphpeal out of this post, just some quick shots of what I grabbed.

I drove a couple hours yesterday to Ottawa with the GF with a mission to pick up a 28-70mm F2.8L which is the predecessor of the highly popular 24-70mm F2.8L. I looked through photo archives of this lens before making this decision and was more than confident that the 600$ I would save from buying a brand new 24-70 would be worth it.

I ended up finding another good deal while on Kijiji and also decided to check out a guys copy of the 70-200mm F4L non-IS while I was there. Ended up being happy with both and grabbed them!

Heres a quick pic of both lenses side by side, along with my 5D and 20-35L mounted on that.

Heres a sample shot from the 28-70 at F2.8, minimal editing needed. This lens is sharp!

Heres a shot I took when I was trying out the lens while buying it, the detail in the chair is quite stellar.

Here is a random shot I took while trying out the 70-200mm F4L. This shot is STRAIGHT from the camera, the only PP was the resize for web. The contrast and sharpness of this lens is awesome, I'm very excited to use it more.

All in all it was a successful trip, and a good time as usual with the GF and meeting up with my homie Neil in Kanata. When I got home to Kingston I picked up a B+W (0) uv Haze filters for both pieces, as I do with all my lenses.

I'll post more pictures as I use the glass more.

Grats on a nice lens purchase.

IIRC, you recently scored an awesome L lens? Damn, I need to visit Canada!

Yep! That was my 20-35L for 300$ in MINT condition. That was easily the best deal I have ever, and potentially WILL ever see.

Focus looks dead on in the hat picture, congrats on getting what appears to be a really nice new lens!

PS - I had the same 70-200 for quite a while, it is probably the best bang for the buck in the entire Canon lens portfolio.

Nice glass!

Thanks! It's kind of a semi "retro" collection I seem to be building unintentionally with two of my L series glass being discontinued!

I hope the 28-70L does the same for me as that lens has for you! I'm sure it will :-)

Thanks! Yeh I couldn't believe it when I reviewed the shot of the car I took randomly on the comp and saw how sharp and rich in colour (Given the FLAT weather outside). I knew it looked good on my 7D's LCD, but I really didn't expect it to look like that once I uploaded.

This is not the first time I have heard this. I have also heard of people doing tests between the F4L IS and the F4L showed better sharpness and contrast even though I heard the IS has "upgraded" optics.

Congrats - I shoot the 28-70 with my 1D3, great lens but wow it's a heavy combo! Pretty sharp wide open too.
