I'm interested in hearing from those who earn a substantial portion of their income by leading photography workshops or tours - primarily landscape and wildlife:

  • How do you get customers
  • Was your workshop business affected by the economy
  • How many workshops do you do in a typical year
  • Do you make more money selling prints, shooting events, or doing workshops
  • Do you have a retail presence other than on-line
  • If you have a retail presence, does it drive business to your workshops or is it simply a side line with a completely different customer base
  • How do you differentiate yourself from the competition
  • What advice would you give to someone thinking about getting into this area of the business

I'm considering a career change and working on a business plan to do so. Any advice from those who do this type of photography work (or have tried) would be greatly appreciated.
