I'm currently working out of an old Domke F2 that's been a great bag. I'm looking for a Domke that's just a little smaller but will still hold an ungripped 7D with a 70-200 f2.8 attached, one other short lens loose, and a flash. Wondering if one of the F3x series would work? Thanks

I would look at the Domke F3X,
Think Tank Retrospective 10 or 20,
and Think Tank Urban Disguise 35.

F3x (vertically), F6 (horizontally) or maybe the F4 AF. I use the F1x, F2, F3x, F5b, F7 Double AF or F802 mostly. The F3x is my one body/two lens solution.

F-3x is too short to accomodate a 70-200 2.8L attached to a body.

I agree. The 70-200 won't even fit with the hood ready to shoot. I use the f-3x when I dot need the 70-200. If I need the white lens, it's the f-2.

Sounds like I may do best to stick with the F2 and just unload some of its load when I want to travel lighter. It is perfect for carrying the 70-200 attached (horizontal in the bag w/3-pocket insert)

If you want to carry the 70-200 f/2.8 mounted to the camera, another lens or 2, and a flash:

Think Tank Retrospective 10 or 20 (the 10 will barely fit, 20 is great)
Think Tank Urban Disguise 35

They will work with a gripped body as well. I know you said "Domke", but these will work too. The Retrospective is very Domke-like, but I think better sized for current sized cameras and lenses.

Sounds like you're not using the hood. If that's the case, the F-6 should work. It will accept your insert IIRC.

Yes, the F-6. It's even called "the little bit smaller bag". You do lose the F-2 end pockets with the F-6.

Maybe u should take a look at the f-831. Holds my 50d with 24-70 with hood in shooting position.

Only if you want the hood extended while it's in the bag. If that's the case, you'll either have vast amounts of extra space in the bag or a very specialized bag because of the 3" or so it adds to the length of the lens.

F3x with 100-400; F2 with 70-200 2.8 IS. 100-400 on a 5D; 70-200 on a 20D. The F3x has a 580EX in one of the outside pockets; there's enough room for another lens or two (up to the 24-70 2.8) alongside the 100-400 or 70-200.

Nope. The F6 uses a separate, shorter, set of inserts. It's not as deep as the other Domkes, so can't handle the 720-230 insert.

Thanks for clarifying that. One thing I don't like about the f-6 is the smaller shoulder strap.

I'm used to packing the 70-200 mounted with the hood reversed. Thanks for all the ideas, folks.
