Nice shots...

So what on earth are they planning to replace them with?

**edit** I see,. it's the f-18 "super" it seems we are now so confident in our air supremecy that our carrier groups no longer need the defence provided by the AIM 54 pheonix....

I guess they have the new aamram which although not as long range as the pheonix is still a stand off weapon.
The poor of F14 is a little out dated today but still sad to see her go :(

Awesome shots BTW

Maybe they have to be retired because the military machine has to get new stuff sold...
(What is the role of these in modern warfare, anyhow?)

Fleet Defense was thier primary role. But who can get close enough to a US Battle Group?

Trust me the new Y22's put them to shame. They ran a test of F15e against the Y22 and the 7 F15s didn't even spot the one Y22 until they were shot down, simulation ofcourse.
But very nice shots! very sharp and clear.

Makes it hard when the next generation have stealth capability and supercruise :)

Why Y22? I thought it has been given the go ahead for full production as the F22?
