Any reason to get the Sigma EF-530 DG Super over this flash?

I'm going from memory here so don't quote me but I think that might be one of the sigma's that does high speed sync? If so, that would be an advantage but otherwise I can't think of much else. I love my sigma lenses but I've had good enough experience with yongnuo to stick with them for my 3rd party flashes.

Question:

I have been using my yn565's with my 7d.

I use the 7d pop up as a master, and switch it off so that it only preflashes.

With this setup, I can shoot ettl and I can set up ratios and control them from the back of the camera.

Does anyone know if I can shoot full manual with the Yongnuo's?

In other words, can I control them in manual (flash manual) from the back of my camera?

Or is it just ettl and ratio shooting only?

Yes, just switch the mode in the camera wireless menu from eTTL to MANUAL. It works for Canon flash so I would think it would work for the YN 565. You will see the ratio settings go away and power level adjustments appear.

If I use this with a Pixel King will it be full ETTL and all settings from camera auto change on flash like it dos with my 430 exii? Thanks.

Tried that earlier and it didn't work.

Not sure if it will work, will have another look.

Tested it again.

I adjusted the power in the flash setting in camera, but they did not adjust them on the flash.

So it seems that it only works with the ettl settings.

It does not allow manual control of the slave units (yongnuos) power output.

With Canon flash you just leave the flash in ETTL, and then all the manual settings are done from the master flash. Did you leave the YN565 set to ETTL? I find it strange that the YN flash will do wireless ETTL but not wireless Manual since they use essentially the same commands from the Master Flash.

I set the Yongnuo to manual.

What was interesting, was that the M was flashing all the time, on both yongnuo flashes.

I would be grateful if it is a setting issue and someone can figure it out.

I am using the 7d/s flip up flash as my master.

Yongnuo does not support master mode.

I just switched it all back on and the M wasn't flashing.

And it worked.

Then I pressed the mode button to change it from Manual to ettl on the flash and it started flashing again when I cycled back round to Manual...

That seems to be linked to the problem somehow, as it does not work when it is flashing.

You do not want to change the mode on the flash. You need to leave it in eTTL and do all the controlling from the camera menu.

Thanks Mike, solved it, thanks to your tip.

When the flash is in slave mode, you have to start it in ettl.

Once you take the first shot, it changes into "manual mode" on the back with your manual settings, which then reflect the adjustments you make in camera.

So impressed with this flash!

Yes, I just worked that out with Mikes tip.

Thank you. :-)
