since you haven't gotten an answer yet, i saw one on my local craigslist go for $1500.
i had no need for the IS, so i didnt pick it up, but some of my other photographer buds said it was a decent deal.

that might put you in the ballpark until you get a better answer.

I sold mine for $1,650.00. A good copy gets close to the Mark II.

eBay! Turns out it was from some pro sports guy and had recently been overhauled by CPS (with new USM). Looks very well-used, but AFAIK it works well.

I paid $1550 on mine through eBay, 70-200 f/2.8L IS USM. Spot on perfect, love this lens.

$1500-1600 seem the average on eBay for this particular model

If you stalk eBay for a few days, you might find one for ~$1,200-$1,300. Remember to look for the "best offer" button, and shoot $100 low your first time. That'll give you some wiggle room if he wants to haggle.

I picked up a like new copy last week for $1,250 (craigslist). It's just a waiting game ;)

It's a waiting game. When I was looking for a 70-200 L, I noticed that 4s were something like $600 and $850, and 2.8s were $950 and $1300. From memory; I don't have my notes here. I just kept my eyes open. I actually came across this one almost immediately, and was astonished that no one else bid on it. It was sold by a photographer with a pretty decent sports-related website, although the lens belonged to a friend of his who presumably was upgrading to the MkII.

Sorry for not getting it but what does AFAIK mean? getting a bit rediculous here lol
Edit..I paid $2000 new for mine lacally and have no regrets and no lust for the mkII. Since I got my 5D2 i have fallen in love with this lens ten times over. incredible sharpness at 2.8 for me.
