What the heck are kids of this age doing this for?

Wow.

I'm a minor hockey coach of kids age 7 through 12, and I've never seen this type of activity before from this age group...rep teams or not.

What happened?

Methinks so. I just can't get over it. It looks...bizarre, to say the least. Honest to God, I'm no old, dumbass fuddy duddy, but this is way nuts man. I certainly hope the League brought the two coaches in for a serious sit down.

I can't imagine the parents...they must have been furious.

Then again, maybe not.

These two teams finished first and second the last two years.
They always play hard against each other.
They are AAA kids and very competitive.
This was game 2 in the final playoff series with the winners going to the OMHA finals.
Series is tied 1-1.
Its usually a very fast paced great game.
But this game, there was excessisve pushing in front of the nets throughout the game with no penalties called.
So it escalated and this happened at the end of the game.
Referees did not control it very well.

Agreed. Id be more apt to blame the refs than the coaches. Even when my adult games get unruly, one can usually blame the referees for allowing the game to get out of hand.

Anyway, cool shots!

hahaha its hockey guys. its a rough sport. your acting like they're pulling knives out or something. i played my whole life as a kid, and when you play certain teams, you have to expect a little dirty play. especially if its a rivalry or really competitive

Hey, I'm as 'Canuck' as the next guy, from SJ, N.B., but I've never seen 10 year olds' do that kind of stuff. We, as coaches, would be LIVID! They're 10, not 16 or 17.

Oh well, I guess more Matt Cooke's, Trevor Gilles', and Derek Boogarrd's are on the horizon.

Cracked.

Starscream, you make it sound like 10 year olds don't get mad, or aren't supposed to. Kids get angry and some fight, it's a part of growing up/learning. I agree the refs allowed the game to escalate if the game was already getting chippy and no calls were being made. Remember, you're coaching hockey, not golf. Expect it.

Fault for escalation, IMO, is the officials for not controlling the game as they most likely let too much go early! Second, the coaches for not correcting the early "cheap shots" by taking out the offender. The players are in protect mode on the ice....if someone crosses the line w/o a call, then you can't let that happen again.
